New Partnership with Missouri Green Schools

Saint Louis Stitchers is pleased to announce that we are now a partnering organization with Missouri Green Schools.

Missouri Green Schools’ mission is to improve health and wellness, incorporate sustainability education, and reduce environmental impact in our schools.

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective is artists and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) teens and young adults, working together to create social change with a focus on gun violence prevention, public health and public safety.

Story Stitchers is committed to placing youth at the center of the work both in identifying topics for exploration as well as the methods for engagement. Stitchers collect stories, reframe and retell them through art, writing and performance to promote understanding, civic pride, intergenerational relationships and literacy. Projects create a platform for community engagement through an artistic lens and with it the Saint Louis Story Stitchers work to shift perceptions and realities and bring hope to the Saint Louis community. Our goal is to promote a better educated, more peaceful and caring region through storytelling.

Story Stitchers work in Missouri’s native prairies, called Peace in the Prairie, supports healing from urban stress and trauma through experiences in nature. Peace in the Prairie will be presented at St. Louis Art Fair in Clayton, Missouri September 9-11th through a booth and 4 performances.

Missouri Green Schools (MGS) is a support and recognition program for schools run jointly by the Missouri Environmental Education Association and the U.S. Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter.

MGS recognizes schools at emerging, progressing, and advanced achievements in three pillars of sustainability – reducing environmental impacts, increasing sustainability literacy, and improving health and wellness. In addition, we have further resources and support available in the form of mini-grants and 1-on-1 support from AmeriCorps VISTAs for eligible schools with at least 60% of their students on free or reduced price lunch.

MGS also serves as the conduit for the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Awards for the state of Missouri in partnership with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

We are excited to work together for a healthier, safer, and more green region!
