Saint Louis Story Stitchers seeks youth and young adults to collaborate with Story Stitchers artists for The WHY of MY City.
In June 2023, during the week of Juneteenth celebrations, Story Stitchers will present a public performance entitled The WHY of MY City.
The WHY of MY City is words and revelations from the past and from elders; it is dialect; it is rhythm and music; it celebrates contemporary underrepresented youth and supports them in becoming the storytellers of tomorrow; It supports diversity, equity and inclusion; it is St. Louis; it is Missouri, past and present; it is recording, thinking, sharing, discussing, learning, digesting and then, finally, creating something new to preserve the past and protect our shared future.

#1 Black Historic Sites Research and Podcasting Internship:
Saint Louis Story Stitchers seeks 4 youth 18-24 years olds and living in St. Louis for an internship to collaborate with Story Stitchers artists and storytellers to conduct research and produce recorded podcast interviews for The WHY of MY City.
4 Young adults who are 18-24 Years old living in St. Louis, MO
$400 each
No experience needed.
Portions of this internship takes part during school hours. You must have a GED or high school diploma to apply.
Internship Schedule:
Saturdays: 12:00-5:00, Nov 12 and Jan 21
Wednesdays: 12:00-5:00, Nov 9, Nov 16, Dec 14
#2 Music and Poetry Production Internship:
Saint Louis Story Stitchers seeks 4 youth 16-24 years old and living in St. Louis for an internship to collaborate with Story Stitchers artists to write and produce new music and poetry for The WHY of MY City.
4 Youth and young adults who are 16-24 years old living in St. Louis, MO
$400 each
No experience needed.
Internship Schedule:
Saturdays: 12:00-5:00, Nov 12 and Jan 21
Tuesdays: 4:00-8:00, Nov 15, Nov 22, Dec 13, Dec 20

The WHY of MY City is supported in part by a grant from Missouri Humanities Council. The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant to Saint Louis Story Stitchers in support of the project, The WHY of MY City. The MHC is the only state wide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
Additional funds are provided by The Lewis Prize for Music Accelerator Grant of 2021 and by the Spirit of St. Louis Women’s Fund.
Additional funds for youth engagement and podcasting are provided by the City of St. Louis Youth at Risk Crime Prevention grant of 2022.
Funds are also provided by the Arts and Education Council.
Saint Louis Story Stitchers is a resident organization of Kranzberg Arts Foundation. The WHY of MY City will be presented at the .ZACK in June 2023.
