Peace in the Prairie spotlight on Creative Reaction Lab

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective presents Peace in the Prairie, an original presentation exploring the concepts of peace and violence, juxtaposing urban life as experienced by black and brown people living in the city of St. Louis, Missouri and the state’s endangered prairie lands.

Is the path towards peace through Missouri’s native prairies?

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective is grateful to have received The Equity Impact Award for from the Bezos Family Foundation and Creative Reaction Lab in 2022. The Equity Impact Award is a monetary award given in recognition of our work in youth development in the arts and equity. Funding for this award was provided by Bezos Family Foundation. We look forward to making great things, like coming together in service to our community at Peace in the Prairie,  happen together!

Creative Reaction Lab’s mission is to educate, train, and challenge Black and Latinx youth to become leaders designing healthy and racially equitable communities. They believe that like all systems, systems of oppression, inequality, and inequity are by design.

Therefore, they can be redesigned. Creative Reaction Lab is building a movement of Redesigners for Justice through our award-winning creative problem solving process called Equity-Centered Community Design. Their local youth program, the Community Apprenticeship Program (CDAP) is specifically for justice-impacted young leaders in St. Louis, ages 18-26. Over the course of several
months, Apprentices build their capacity to use creative problem solving alongside their neighbors to design a hyperlocal intervention around a specific equity topic.

They are participating in Earth Day because members of CDAP recently spent time working on the issue of gun violence and community trauma. They’d like to continue the work alongside the community of young people at Story Stitchers who are also invested in addressing this issue. We all hope this event is a great opportunity to springboard relationships, take action, and share information and resources with each other.

From 2:00-4:00 their table will offer free materials related to the topic of gun violence and they will share items designed by youth at Creative Reaction Lab.

Creative Reaction Lab’s Community Design Apprenticeship Program (CDAP) is for youth in the St. Louis Metro Area who have been impacted by the criminal justice-system, either through their own lived experience or through that of a relative or loved one. CDAP youth will be active participants in facilitating the vendor table.
