Story Stitchers were honored to participate as Regional Storytellers in the 38th Annual St. Louis Storytelling Festival on Saturday, May 6th at the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis.
Artists created and performed works that considered souls who had walked the ground beneath them in years past including Native Americans, Lewis and Clark, and slaves seeking justice and freedom including Dred Scott. Youth sang and spoke about gun violence in St. Louis today, pleading with their peers to help them heal their beloved city and to consider ways to move forward together.
The program was part of the NEA-funded “Parks Come Alive” project, a collaboration between Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and St. Louis Storytelling Festival, a variety of storytellers showcased community reflections of what this iconic national park in the heart of St. Louis means to them. This project was supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Story Stitchers program was also supported by Kranzberg Arts Foundation.
Our special thanks to Festival director Lisa Overholser for her strong support.
