Presented in conjunction with the Kemper Art Museum’s Family Fun Day, a free interactive public event for all ages, 11:00 am -3:00 pm.
Story Stitchers are pleased to present original spoken word and hip hop that responds to works currently on view in the Kemper Art Museum’s permanent collection with a focus on artists of African American descent, artists working in a Collective, and art work related to life in American especially as experienced by African American people. Works include art by Gran Fury, Andy Warhol, Renee Cox, Rashid Johnson, Carrie Mae Weems, Romare Beardon, Tim Rollins + K.O.S., Franz Ackerman, and Kara Walker.
Performing artists include KP Dennis, Britt Baker, Jarmel Reece, Dadishi Buchannon, Sag Live, and featuring Stitchers Teen Council lead performers Juwuan, Taron, and Toryon. Supporting artists include Jun Bae, Thomas Cook, Christian Korta, Dahlgren Baker, Susan Colangelo, and Charles from Stitchers Teen Council.

The Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective is professional artists and urban youth, 15-24 years old, working together to create social change with a focus on gun violence prevention. Stitchers collect local stories, reframe and retell them through art, writing and performance to promote understanding, civic pride, intergenerational relationships and literacy. Story Stitchers are artists-in-residence at Kranzberg Arts Foundation in the vibrant Grand Center Arts District and run a Storefront Studio for publishing at 616 N Skinker Blvd. in the hip Loop District.
Projects create a platform for community engagement through an artistic lens and with it the Saint Louis Story Stitchers work to shift perceptions and realities and bring hope to the Saint Louis community. Follow the blog at storystitchers.org to learn more. Youth ages 15-24 are welcome to apply.
