Story Stitchers Teen Council members, all juniors in high school, enjoy tours at Washington University as they think ahead to high school graduation and beyond. Visiting colleges and getting the feel of various programs and campuses is a part of learning to think ahead and visualize oneself as a college student.
Story Stitchers is thankful for the relationship it has with universities in the St. Louis area including Washington University, University of Missouri, Columbia, Webster University, and University of Missouri, St. Louis. Universities provide space to work, ACT prep, volunteer faculty and students, interns, friendly tours, and application fee waivers to the Story Stitchers Teens, most of whom will be the first generation of college students in their families. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2015, 17% of African Americans earned a bachelors degree compared to 28% of the general U.S. population.
