Stitchers Teen Council members and Collective artists previewed the Guns in the Hands of Artists exhibition Saturday, in preparation for their participation in the Artists’ Panel and Performance September 17th and to prepare for an additional upcoming event. Toryon, pictured here, is amazed to look down the barrels of the shotgun and find a surprise inside! Viewing the complex and elegant exhibition provoked new conversations about guns in American society amongst artists and teens.

In addition to Thursday’s performance, Stitchers Teens Council and Collective artists are preparing for a video taped discussion in the Des Lee Gallery between local teenagers and invited adult guests, including St. Louis City Police Officers, to open communication and to identify commonality, greater understanding and ways to cooperate and collaborate between city police and teenage youth as both work to lower St. Louis’s high rates of gun violence.

The video taped discussion is sponsored by the Institute of Public Health, Washington University in St. Louis and the Gun Violence & Awareness Initiative and is in conjunction with the Guns in the Hands of Artists exhibition at the Des Lee Gallery, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University. Exhibition dates: September 16-November 21, 2015.

Interested high school students may apply by emailing an inquiry to storystitchers@gmail.com
