Heather Bennett, a faculty member at the School of Art at Washington University, came to the Stitchers Storefront Studio on Saturday for Workshop #2 of the Curating Teen Voices: Coming of Age Series, led by Mariana Parisca. Heather shared a unique perspective on the making of photographs by sharing some of her favorite artists’ work along with some of her own. In a college level lecture aimed at stretching teenage brains, Professor Bennett created opportunities for the teens to consider a new way of creating a still image utilizing carefully thought out set design, lighting, placement and detail such as hair, make up, weather or furnishings. Teens were given disposable cameras and sent off with the assignment of creating self-portraits without any images of their own bodies.
