Stitchers Teen Council members at the final public presentation of BIG HUG in a Bag, a St. Louis Mental Health Board $1,000 Youth Mini-Grant, July 25, 2015.

Congratulations to the Stitchers Teen Council for winning the Presentation Award of $100 from the St. Louis Mental Health Board for their display and public presentation of their $1,000 Youth Mini Grant on youth homelessness awareness.

Teens shared the work load throughout the year including grant writing, outreach and securing partnerships, budget and shopping, putting the backpacks together, speaking publicly about the project to several hundred people through the year, delivering the backpacks and meeting with the school principal creating visual displays including photography and video, researching facts about youth homelessness, creating and performing original prose and attending the final presentation. Great work!!!

Special thanks to the St. Louis Mental Health Board, Principal Colby Heckendorn of Patrick Henry Downtown Academy, Saint Louis Public School District, the Life Foundation that provided school supplies, and Ready Readers that provided children’s books.
